Marla Kay hails from Philadelphia, and in the early ‘80’s performed on Broadway, National Tours, and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association. In 1987 she settled down, married her husband Marvin, and was a Director and Owner of her own performing arts studio for 37 years. This past June she semi-retired and moved to Sunrise, Florida. She has dedicated her entire life to educating children, tweens, and teens in the performing arts. Many of her students have gone on to win National Titles, perform on the top collegiate dance teams, and toured with many Billboard artists. She has also been a judge at many dance competitions including Star Power, Star Systems and Beyond The Stars.
Ms. Kay has studied with many masters including Anne Reinking, Gary Flannery, Hinton Battle and Frank Hatchett to name a few. She continues to take classes both on the east and west coast with Ryan Heffington, Brian Fredman, and Andy Blankenbuehler and believes there is always a new way to learn and create. She has staged well over fifty productions and has recently created an immersive program so that children can perform for other children and incorporate their talents while encouraging the audience to contribute and participate throughout the entire performance.
Ms. Kay also feels it is important for children to learn how to take their talents and create stories and find a way to give back and her projects always give a percentage of proceeds to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and The Children’s Literacy Project.
She is excited to join the BARCLAY Performing Arts family.
